Prosecutor Doug Evans’ persistence continued despite higher courts finding discriminatory jury selection and misconduct by prosecutors.

Mr. Flowers should NEVER have been incarcerated in the first place.

In July 1996, Winona, Mississippi was rocked by a horrific quadruple murder which left four employees at the Tardy Furniture showroom dead after being shot execution style. Curtis Flowers, an ex-employee, was arrested shortly after and so began a twenty-four year long fight for justice. Prosecutors alleged that Flowers was disgruntled due to being fired from the store and carried out his revenge on the store’s owner and other witnesses at the scene. However, six trials later, the prosecution announced on Friday that they have dropped the charges against Flowers, saying that they will not be seeking “an unprecedented seventh trial”. All six trials were either declared mistrials or resulted in reversed convictions, and the case has garnered considerable attention as many have pointed out the apparent systemic racism and lack of evidence against Flowers. His latest death penalty conviction was appealed on the grounds that the prosecution had unlawfully excluded Black jurors. Sixty-one out of seventy-two jurors who were a part of Flowers’ trials over the years were white. He was released on bail last year.
